Enjoy the Bitcoin Lifestyle: 5 Secrets to Longevity
The key to Bitcoin’s success? Time. In the world of Bitcoin, health and longevity are your ultimate force multipliers.
As a Lifestyle Medicine physician and Bitcoin champion, I've spent years advising high-achievers on how to optimize their health for the long game. Whether you're stacking sats or navigating market volatility, the principles of Bitcoin's sovereignty must define your health and lifestyle. I'm Gregory Charlop, MD. I've seen how financial freedom can either fuel a raging life or crash into burnout.
As I gear up to keynote the Max & Stacy Bitcoin Invitational and Plan ₿ Forum in El Salvador this month on decentralized wellness, I want to share five longevity hacks. They’ll optimize your body and mind so you can hodl $1M in BTC and enjoy the fruits of your vision.
Nutrition
I get it, nutrition is controversial. This is especially true among Bitcoiners. While we all agree it’s important to watch what you eat, everyone seems to have their own opinion about what’s best. As a Lifestyle Medicine physician and nutrition advisor to top-performers, here are my basic rules:
Don’t overeat. Eat slowly and stop just before you’re full
Eat a variety of vegetables, particularly broccoli and dark, green, leafy veggies
Save junk food for special occasions, not convenient snacks
Don’t drink sugar (soda, fraps, and juices)
Eat berries, ideally at least twice a day
Don’t keep junk food in the house (it will encourage you to graze)
Eat nuts, particularly walnuts and almonds
Drink unsweetened tea and black coffee. Especially black coffee. A Cocomax here and there ain’t bad, either
Everything must be personalized. There is no one-size-fits-all solution
In my view, the weight of evidence is in favor of a Mediterranean diet. However, nutrition research is notoriously poor, and we react differently to food based on our genetics, microbiome, and lifestyle. Speak to an expert doctor to identify the best diet for you.
If you’re like most folks enjoying the Bitcoin Lifestyle, you travel a lot. If so, ensure you’re eating healthy food while on the road. That soda will still nail you, regardless of where you drink it.
Resistance Training
You gotta do some resistance training (weights, pushups, pullups, lunges), not just cardio. Lifting weights boosts cognitive function, strengthens bones, improves blood sugar, and protects against heart disease. To get the most benefit, hit the weights at least twice a week for at least 30 minutes per workout. Focus on large muscle groups, such as legs, back, and chest. Did you hear that? Legs. Seriously. Don’t skip leg day.
Most of my wealthy clients are frequent travelers. If that’s you, ensure you keep up your exercise routine even while you’re on the road. Ensure your hotel has a gym, or search for one nearby. Oh, and check with your doctor first before starting any exercise routine to avoid trouble.
Meaningful Social Relationships
Loneliness can erode longevity faster than any bear market, so combat it by forging community nodes in a Bitcoin-style network. In fact, loneliness is more dangerous than smoking! My coaching for high-net-worth individuals reveals that relational voids accelerate aging, but intentional networking counters this. Think of it as expanding your ecosystem: contribute to Bitcoin meetups, collaborate on projects, or nurture offline gatherings. Evidence from social epidemiology confirms that these connections enhance psychological immunity, reducing the health impacts of solitary pursuits and fostering a supportive horde for the long haul.
Here’s the thing. Your social relationships must be more than transactional. Focus on finding genuine connections with people beyond business deals.
Meaningful social relationships gift you a longer, happier life
Friends and family first
Make investing in friends and family as important as your financial investments, treating them as irreplaceable assets in your sovereignty portfolio. Bitcoin's emphasis on self-reliance doesn't negate the human need for bonds; instead, it frees you to invest deeply in them. Now that you’re released from worrying about the irrationality of the stock market, you have the mental energy and emotional reserve to commit to meaningful connections with family and friends. After all, you want great companions to share your Bitcoin-fueled travel and experiences!
Transform your home into an oasis of longevity
To live the Bitcoin Lifestyle, you must also embrace the Longevity Lifestyle. Transform your home into a health sanctuary. Invest some of your Bitcoin wealth in yourself. Install a hot sauna, which most adults should use several times a week to ward off heart disease and help prevent Alzheimer’s. Build a home gym with weights and cardio equipment. Be sure to include a TV and a good sound system to keep you motivated! Invest in home health devices, such as a smart scale and a fitness tracker. Check your house for mold and radon. Finally, ensure you have adequate green space. We’re healthier, happier, and more productive when we’re exposed to nature. Why not include it in your house?
As an aside, you also want to de-risk your home. Slips and falls are life-threatening, particularly for those over age 65. Install grab bars and non-skid flooring in your showers. Toss out those slippery rugs. Ensure adequate lighting in your bathroom and at your front door. Use a motion sensor. You don’t want your home to be a trap!
